BC Coilover Problem?

So when Raman was helping me out with mounting tires ( Thanks yo ) we noticed that my front coilovers had a shit load of grease behind the spring/cover area (about midway up of the whole system). I contacted BC because they are still under warranty and this is the response I got.

Quote:
Sometimes the seals go bad on the inverted and they start leaking grease around the base. If that is the case you can pull them apart and rebuild them. All you have to do is take them off the car...loosen the nut on the bottom...pull the piston out....clean all the grease out of the tube....re-pack it with the same amount of grease...reinstall the seals and put the piston back in and tighten the nut up.
Anyone familiar with this? If they are blown I've got a few more months before warranty expires, otherwise I'd have to re-pack the system (something I'm not all that familiar with).

Also, is there a way that I can do this without affecting my alignment specs?

Thanks

If it needs to be repacked make them do it. Thats what a warranties for. If your wanting to do it yourself to save the down time, ive never done it but i seen a thread on another forum and was told its pretty simple. Alignment might be alright after replacing but you should always have one done after messing with your suspension.

Down time is an issue. If they are blown I'll definitely have them covered by warranty. However, if is it as simple as repacking them then I'd rather just do that and save myself the time.

They are under warranty, send them back. I had this problem happen too. Also call and speak to Pete, he is the owner. He had me purchase and new set and refunded me when I returned the others.

tell them to send you a new cartridge, and you will replace the cartridge and send the old one back. That is what they did for me. They even sent a return shipping label with the new one.

bunch of threads about the inverted BC's blowing in the red room. What it the advantage of being inverted?

Only coilover I have never heard problems with is the Tein SS.

Supposidley the bigger barrel on the coilover adds regidity and better support. I like them. Pete at BC told me that they will last longer then the standard coilover........ go figure.

Yeah... that is what it looks like.
Haven't been to the red room in a while and I knew a bunch of you guys were running on them as well and dealt with this issue.

Thanks!

the inverted coils are junk for daily driving. My brother has the inverted ones and they lasted him 20,000 miles before 3 of 4 blew out. He never got to even track the car.
They are a more aggressive style coilover and will not last as long.
The standard BC coilovers are going over 40,000 miles. I couldn't see myself spending 200 dollars more on something that lasts half as long My brothers car rode a whole lot stiffer than mine on similar settings.
How many miles did you get out of yours?
What kind of grease do they want you to pack it with? Anything specific? Maybe I can talk my brother into trying this.
